Fritz Reiner
Fritz Reiner , born the December 19th 1888 with Budapest and deceased the November 15th 1963 with New York, is a Leader Hungarian naturalized American in 1928.
Biography
He first of all studies the Piano in Hungary, before obtaining at 16 years, in 1905, his diploma with the Conservatoire of Budapest. Starting from 1909, he becomes leader in Budapest then with the Opera of Dresden.Like its compatriot Eugene Ormandy, it expatriate with the the United States in order to move the Symphony orchestra of Cincinnati, 1922 with 1931. Then he arrives at the head of the Symphony orchestra of Pittsburgh of 1938 to 1948, while directing to the Metropolitan Opera. For this period, he off teaches the direction of orchestra to the Curtis Institute Music with students like Leonard Bernstein, Lukas Foss,…
Its dedication arrives when he becomes the permanent chief of the Symphony orchestra of Chicago which he directs of 1953 to 1963. For this period it gives to this orchestra a dimension of very first order and carries out recordings which are still references today.
Repertory
Its rather traditional repertory it empèche not to defend the music of its compatriot Béla Bartók or of Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler ( Symphony nº 4 , Das Lied von der Erde ) or Dmitri Chostakovitch ( Symphony nº 6 with Pittsburgh). Its interpretations of the symphonies of Beethoven also at the head remain compared discographies.
