Fritz Fischer (historian)

Fritz Fischer , born on March 5th, 1908 with Ludwigsstadt and dead on December 1st, 1999 with Hamburg, was a German Historien which was professor with the Université of Hamburg.

Fischer was one of the first historians to develop a negative version of the Sonderweg and to see in the advent of the Nazi regime the result of the way taken politically by Germany since the 19th century. It is in particular known for its theses on the causes of the First World War, for which it allots the responsibility to the German Empire, and its work the Goals of war of imperial Germany (1961) was the object of the one of the most important historical controversies of Germany of post-war period.
