the Friends of Fagne is a Belgian, founded royal company in 1935, with for objective the safeguard and the illustration of the High plateau fagnard

History

In 1957, the Domanial Natural reserve of the High Fagnes is founded. Surrounded of the Natural park High Fagnes-Eiffel (1971), it extends today on nearly 5000 hectares, and profits from an additional protection like site Natura 2000. The High Fagnes belong to the major Patrimoine of Wallonia

Activities

The assocition organizes work of management every fifteen days on the properties of association or in Domanial Natural reserve. Each year, “the Friends of Fagne” organize a “operation cleanliness”, shouldered by many association-sisters (Sowing of spruces to be eliminated, drains to be barred, witnesses of the past to be restored, refuse to be collected).

Association publishes a quarterly review, High Fagnes , on the local topicality, of the scientific work having milked to the area, the History, the cultural heritage, the regional Toponymie, the Géologie, the fauna or the Flore of the fagnes.

The muddy extents and their crown of forests were charted by “the Friends of Fagne”. Four boards color with the 1/20.000e describe them thoroughly and give to the honor the traditional toponymy of these places in charge of history.

The Friends of Fagne organize public excursions one Sunday out of two to present the plate fagnard and its surroundings, with three possible routes, as well as excursions according to the traditions and the regional folklore, of the excursions with topics (Ornithologie and Botanique) or of the one half-day walks. They visit sometimes other areas of Belgium, Eiffel or besides and organize voyages abroad.
