Friend Argand

François Pierre Ami Argand is a Physicien and Chimiste Suisse, born with Geneva on July 5th 1750 (or 1753?) (or 1755?), died with London in 1803.

Biography

He invents in 1782 a Oil lamp with side tank and double draft, ten to twelve times more powerful than a simple candle, to which Quinquet, pharmacist of Paris, left its name. It is him which substitutes for the wick S full, which gave much smoke and little light, with the wicks in the shape of hollow roll: Quinquet had only the idea to associate a chimney of glass.

Its pupil, successor and cousin by alliance Isaac-Friend Lopsider-Marcet will resume his work in the years 1810.
