Friedrich von Gentz
Friedrich von Gentz or Frederic Gentz (May 2nd 1764 with Breslau, † June 9th 1832 in Vienna) was a writer, and German politician. Philosopher and disciple of Kant, he was also publicity agent and diplomat in particular at Metternich. Impassioned and engaged writer, it wrote fundamental works of political economy and was especially one of the main actors of the movement against revolutionist and probably the European adversary of the most active Napoleon.
Life
Friedrich Gentz was born on May 2nd, 1764 in Breslau. His/her father was administrator and his mother a close relative of the Prussian minister Jean Pierre Frederic Ancillon.
The brother of Friedrich: Heinrich Gentz was an important architect of traditional mobility. Friedrich passed its childhood and its adolescence to Breslau to Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium. Thereafter, he attended Joachimsthaler Gymnasium in Berlin. Gentz studied in Koenigsberg near the large philosopher Immanuel Kant. Raise shining, Kant entrusted to him even the tests of the second reading of the criticism of the practical reason. In 1785, Gentz turned over, without the least diploma, in Berlin and began a career in the Prussian administration. He did not like his work and compared it with a modern slavery.
In 1793 it was to advise with the ministry for the War. It started, also, at the same moment a career of writer while answering in an article of the great man of preserving State Justus Möser in the Berlinische Monatsschrift in 1791. Gentz criticized Möser in an impregnated argumentation of Kantian philosophy. In 1793 it obtained to the recognition of the public through its translation of the Reflections one the Revolution in France of Edmund Burke. It founded Neue Deutsche Monatsschrift into 1795 this newspaper did not last that one year in the last publication it announces that the writing of a history of the revolution does not enable him to continue the publication of the newspaper. Since 1793, it replaced Wilhelm August Rehberg in the " cover journalistique" French revolution by the means of Allgemeine Literatur Zeitung, it continued thus like the " against révolutionnaire" most gifted German and most dedicated. But it is through the publication of Historisches Journal in 1799 and 1800 that all its talent of committed political writer was expressed.
In 1801 after the publication of two of its major works (translated into several languages as of their publications his book on " the political state of Europe" was even published more - English time) On the origin and the character of the war vis-a-vis the French revolution and on the political State of Europe before and after the French revolution , Gentz supported financially by England and receiving gifts of Austria and Russia was in a delicate political position because of its opposition increasing to the policy of neutrality of Prussia. Thus in 1802, after its divorce, it left Berlin for Vienna. It found Vienna quite insipid on its arrival and was not accepted by the emperor of the Saint Worsens Roman Germanique, François II.
