Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter

Friedrich Richard Rudolf Schlechter is a German Botaniste , born with Berlin the October 16th 1872 and died in Berlin the November 15th 1925.

His/her father, Hugo Schlechter, were lithographer.

He makes his studies in Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium of Berlin.

He is a time employed with the Botanical garden of the university of Berlin, then made in November 1891 its first voyage to the Cape (South Africa). After a short work of inspector of the for the services of agriculture will phylloxéra, it becomes gardener of Henry Mathew Arderne (1834-1914), then is engaged by the botanist Harry Bolus (1834-1911) as assistant to deal of his herbarium and its library. He learns how to know the South-African flora thanks to Bolus which apparently lets it undertake several forwardings of collection. He makes knowledge, for this period, of Hermann Wilhelm Rudolf Marloth (1855-1931) and of Peter MacOwan (1830-1909).

Thanks to the influence of Otto Warburg (1859-1938), and taking into account its experiment, it is missionné by a semi-official organization, the Deutsche Kolonialgesellschaft , to seek and study in the German colonies of new plants with rubber. This mission, which it will occupy during 14 years, will carry out it in Western Africa (Cameroun) (1899-1900), in the West Indies (mainly Malaysia and New Guinea) (1900-1903), again in Cameroun in 1905 and Malaysia and New Guinea in 1906-1910. He is the author of several work on the orchises. He travels in Africa, in Indonesia, New Guinea, Central America and Australia. Its very rich Herbier is destroyed during the bombardments of Berlin in 1945.
