Friedrich Kuhlau

Friedrich Kuhlau (September 11th 1786 with Uelzen close to Hanover - March 12th 1832 with Lyngby close to Copenhagen) was a German Compositeur /Danish.

Biography

Still child, Kuhlau lost his right eye following an accident. He accepted his musical instruction with Hamnourg near Schwenke. In 1810, to flee the French Conscription, it left for Copenhagen and could find there a place in a formation of Chamber music. After the representation, very appreciated, of its first opera S entitled " Die Räuberburg" ( the castle of the robbers ) and " Elisa" , it was named official type-setter of the royal court of Denmark. Following the composition of the drama " Elverhøj" , it was distinguished as professor. He died in Lyngby on March 12th 1832.

Works

In addition to other operas, such as " Lulu" , " Die Zauberharfe" ( the magic toothing-stone ) and " Hugo und Adelheid" it composed of vocal and instrumental works as well as parts for the piano, of which many sonatas with teaching destination which still today are very much used for teaching.

Elverhøj

The Elverhøj drama (in French: the Hill of the elves), was composed at the time of a marriage at the court of Denmark in 1828. It was adapted in five months starting from many Danish and Swedish popular melodies. The text was written by Johann Ludvig Heiberg.

The first representation took place on November 6th, 1828 with the royal theater of Copenhagen. This work always enjoys a great popularity in Denmark.

The opening of Elverhøj was adapted for the film music of Olsenbande, " Die Olsenbande sieht rot" (1976).
