Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus
Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus or Frederic-Arnold Brockhaus (born the May 4th 1772 with Dortmund and dead the August 20th 1823 with Leipzig), German editor.
He was the founder of the publisher Brockhaus in Leipzig, then with Amsterdam. He will be successively bookseller in Dortmund, Amsterdam, Altenbourg and Leipzig.
During its stay with Altenbourg, he undertook the publication of the dictionary known under the name of Conversations Lexicon ; the first edition appeared in 1810.
It still made print a great number of periodic writings and important works, such as:
- the History of Hohenstaufen , Friedrich Ludwig Georg von Raumer
- the bibliographical Lexicon of Friedrich Adolf Ebert
- the German Bibliography of Johann Samuel Ersch.
