Frequency
That is that a " fréquence"?
The frequency is the number of times that a periodic phenomenon reproduces during one limited duration.
The frequency is the Inverse of the Period. One notes . If the selected unit of time is the second, the frequency is measured in hertz (symbole : Hz), of the name of the physicist Heinrich Hertz.
For recall, a phenomenon is periodic if it reproduces identical to itself with regular time intervals.
In Statistical study , or Genetic of the populations, the frequency indicates a number of elements compared to a broader group to which they belong. This frequency can be expressed in percent or fraction of 1 (1 meaning 100% of the group).
The frequency is also used to quantify the " puissance" of a Microprocessor (see Frequency of the processor). In this case, the frequency makes it possible to know the number of operation a second which the component (ex can carry out: a processor of 2Ghz = 2.000.000 000 of operations a second).
Fields of application
The frequency term is very general and applies as well to the undulatory physics of the phenomena as to the life of the every day: in this last case one will consider the frequency of an event (passage of a bus, behavior of an assembly, many blows of hammer in a given time)
In the field of undulatory physics one will speak:
of a Mechanical frequency of Oscillation , possibly in the audible field (sound) or inaudible (Infrason S or Ultrasounds)
of an electromagnetic frequency of oscillation (see table Ci below)
