Frenzy BSD

Frenzy is the multi-fonction pocket knife of the system administrator. It is presented in the form of a LiveCD based on FreeBSD. It contains primarily software intended for the tests of the hardware and filesystems, for the security checks and the adjustments and analyzes of the functions network. The size of the Image disc is of 200 Mo, it is compatible with mini-CD of 8 cm.

The current version is based on FreeBSD 5.2.1-RELEASE. The use of the Data compression (geom_ugz) makes it possible to make hold approximately 600 Mo of data on CD of 200 Mo. The rate loading is some thus improved.

With starting, Frenzy creates the discs necessary in Random access memory, detects automatically the partitions of hard drives present and assembles them. The formats UFS, Allocation Counts|FAT 16 and 32 bits, NTFS and Ext2 are supported. Frenzy also goes up, if it detects one of them, the partitions swap FreeBSD. You can create yourself if necessary a partition of swap on one of the assembled discs. The detection of the mouse is automatic (PS/2, serial, USB).

X window is not launched automatically. With the first launching obtained by using " startx" , the automatic control of the video equipment is launched. You can also launch the script of autodétection manually if you encounter some difficulties. The manager of window by defect is Fluxbox. Pig iron and cast iron TTF is present.

Scripts make it possible to regulate in an interactive way certain parameters related on the interface network (IP static and DHCP) and to modem (PPP dialup). You have the possibility of safeguarding the adjustments system and the data on a diskette, a key USB or the hard drive. These data will be restored automatically with the following boot.
