French senatorial elections of 1959

The senatorial elections take place on April 6th 1959.

The purpose of they are to complete the constitution of the first Parlement of the Fifth Republic.

Results

As for the municipal elections of the previous month, one finds a stability in the distribution of the seats, which remains in conformity with that of the last Conseil of the Republic of the Fourth Republic.
84% of outgoing is re-elected.

The left preserves 40% of the seats and compensates for a little its rout of the legislative of 1958. Moreover, good number of beaten find on this occasion a new mandate: Jacques Duclos, Gaston Defferre, Edgar Faure, François Mitterrand, etc
