However, one can say without too much simplifying, that the race are mainly resulting from crossings between horses Normands, Vendéens, Charolais, Center, and English Pur-sang. The official statute of the French Saddle was defined only in 1958.

Improvements
French the Selle horses are mainly selected for their aptitudes for the Saut of obstacles. As the course of jump of obstacles are increasingly technical for the same heights of obstacles, the horses must be increasingly sharp and reagents while preserving their power. When they have much blood English Pur-sang, they are also very competitive in complete contest (the CEC).In order to adapt the French Saddle to the requirements of the modern competition, the stockbreeders try to insufflate blood to them all in their preserving a powerful model, thanks to the crossings with horses having much blood (English thorough-bred or anglo Arab). Such crossings are required to take part in the competitions of horse-races of obstacle (Hedge, Steeple-Chase) and the horses enter then a qualification of A.Q.P.S.
Moreover, since the creation of the label factors of French Saddle , there exists more and more of products resulting from crossing between a French Saddle and another European race from which certain particularly brilliant subjects profit. A Poulain resulting from a relative factor of French Saddle can be registered in the section has stud book French Saddle if his/her other relative is of French Selle race.
