French platform for the equitable trade

The French Plate-forme for the equitable trade is an association created in 1997, which gathers today the large majority of the French actors of the equitable trade having a national dimension. If the PFCE does not represent the whole of the French movement of the equitable trade, to belong to it remainder today for a small organization the principal national guarantee that its practices are in conformity with the principles of the equitable trade.

Activities

The PFCE ensures a work of institutional promotion of the equitable trade, of support to the reinforcement of the research and guarantee schemes. It coordinates in particular the Quinzaine the equitable trade, principal event of promotion of the equitable trade which takes place each year (since 2001) during the first two weeks of May.

Members and representativeness

On the whole, the PFCE counts today twenty-nine members actors and four members sympathizers (among whom Chrétiens in the rural world, International handicap and the Ligue of teaching); the national main organizations specialized in the equitable trade (Max Havelaar France, Craftsmen of the World, Solidar' World, Alter Eco, Ethiquable, Craft industry-SALT, Equiterre) are members actors. The PFCE is thus representative of the various types of existing structures: importers, importer-retailers, specialized shops, associations of promotion, associations of certification, associations of equitable Tourism. There exists a real pluralism within the PFCE, where collaborate of the organizations as different as Artisans from the world and Alter Eco. The candidates and the members are evaluated on the basis of charter of the platform, which enables him to exert a certain function of guarantee in France (in particular for all the products other than food).

The PFCE does not gather all the important actors of the equitable trade in France. Some specialized importers (Lobodis, Ekitrade, and Andean) are not members. Andean withdrew itself from the PFCE in 2004, devoting itself then to the animation of the federation Minga, regrouping of local structures which is characterized in particular by a will to extend the equitable trade to the North-North exchanges.

Since 2006, the PFCE is member of the collective Alliance for the planet.
