French legislative Elections of 1997

The legislative elections of 1997 took place the May 25th and on June 1st 1997 is one year before the term of the preceding mandature (XI {{E}} legislature) because of the dissolution of the National Assembly decided by the President of the Republic Jacques Chirac.

The results of the election will lead to the victory of the Gauche Frenchwoman taken along by Lionel Jospin which is seen charged by Jacques Chirac to form the next government. At the conclusion of the Lionel Jospin elections is appointed Prime Minister and will lead his governmental majority within a movement called socialist Plural left associating the , the communist , the Mouvement of the citizens, the Greens and the radical lefts within the government which it will animate of 1997 to the French presidential election of 2002.

Composition of the National Assembly

This list gathers the composition of the National Assembly after the second round of the 1 er June 1997. The composition changed following partial legislations or deputies changing of group. Running 1998,30 deputies of the UDF group leave their formation of origin to found the group Liberal Démocratie and Independent (DLI).
