French language of schooling
The French language of schooling (or French of schooling , FLSco ) is a form of French on specific objectives (FOS). It is about French taught with not-French-speaking people as a factor of insertion in a school or university course. It is in fact the object of all the courses given by the Casnav.
It is Gerard Vigner who defines the first the language of schooling. It acts for him of a “language learned how to teach other matters that itself and who can, in certain countries, being present in the social environment of the pupils. ”
Appearance of FLSco after the FLS
The studies on FLSco are very related to FLS: indeed, for a pupil who has just arrived to France, the language of the school is for him a language of insertion. For this pupil, FLSco and the FLS do only one.
However, according to Michele Verdhelan,
“the didactic one of FLS is developed little but with regard to the public new-newcomers in France, a common variable can be released: French is a language of schooling, i.e. French learns à the school and pour the school.
From where concept of French Language of Schooling (FLSCO). ”
Indeed, the public of FLSco is not inevitably the same one as that of FLS, since FLSco is a concept being able to be common to the FLS and French Native tongue. It is what Michele Verdhelan underlines:
“Contrary to the concept of language second, which positions compared to the FLE or with the FLM, according to geographical territories, sociolinguistic or psycholinguistics different, French of schooling is not a particular field, an unspecified alternative of the FLS for example. It is a transverse function with the native tongue and the language second. One can analyze it in components or sub-functions. ”
Public of FLSco
In general, this public is composed minor pupils who have just arrived to France: French of schooling (FLSco) is the main object of a course of class of reception (CLA). It is about French such as it is spoken at the school (COVERING JOINT), with the college (CLA), with college (CLA of college)]] or at the University (there is no public structure for the preparation of FLSco at the University, however in much of private schools there is often a course of FOS, sometimes of FLSco.
Specific objectives
The objectives, whatever the level, are:
-
school French, jargon of the pupils, lexicon of the school life, but also rites school;
- interdisciplinary French and metalinguistics: it is then specific to the disciplines of the pupil. It acts for example for a schoolboy of the lexicon book, page, pencil, etc but as of concepts as one finds everywhere: a title, a subtitle, the organization of a handbook, etc it is seen, FLSco (like the FLE) does not limit oneself to the facts of languages, but also raises very largely of the Pragmatique and the acts of speech.
- French of each discipline: the professor of FLSCO must be able to teach with the schoolboy the lexicon of mathematics, chemistry, the EPS.
FLSco, finally, is a course which has its specificities. However one finds of FLSco in any didactic Situation, of the elementary school at the University, since any professor always takes care, and without realizing it, to render comprehensible with the pupils the lexicon Métalinguistique and metadidactic of his course: leave your book, write, arrange your bags , etc Of course, this lexicon varies according to the public. One can consequently speak about a specific public instead of a specific objective .
FLSco is thus the name of certain courses directed exclusively towards him, but it is also specific contents to any teaching of any discipline, French being an at the same time interdisciplinary tool and metalinguistics.
