Circulation
This highway is very much used in period of vacation because it allows the people living in the north of the France, in particular many the franciliens, to join the coasts of the the Mediterranean (by the A7 of Lyon to Marseilles). It also makes it possible to join the the Alps in period of winter sports.
For these periods, the highway is particularly in charge in direction of the south at the beginning of leave, in direction of Paris at the end of the leave. The last weekend of July and the first weekend of August are particularly charged in the two directions - congestions sometimes being able to extend on hundreds from kilometers - at the time of what one names the drive out-crossed between the franciliens known as juilletists which finish their holidays and those known as August holiday-makers which begins them.
The A5 was built between 1990 and 1995 to unchoke A6 with the accesses of Paris. In the south, it separates from A6 on the level of the plate of Langres and joined the area is Île-de-France by Melun.

Strange
- Since 1992, on the commune of Senan in the Yonne, between Joigny and Auxerre, a giant publicity is drawn by the particular size of a field with hillside in order to be seen by far by the motorists, in the direction Paris - Lyon. The slogan changes every year at the time of harvest, the summer.
