French highway A47
Brought into service definitively in 1983, the A47 is a highway which connects Givors (Lyon) to St-Etienne.
It is also used as service road of the suburban communes of the south-west of Lyon and the East of St-Etienne.

History

1953 :
- 1962 : opening of the central section between St-Chamond and Bank-of-Gier (current exchanger 11).
- 1970 : opening of the prolongation towards Givors. In Givors, A47 is built on an old channel, which makes him cross the city to the nose of the windows!
- 1983 : opening of the short section Givors-Drives out (A7/A46). The Lyon route - St-Etienne can finally borrow the highway from beginning to end.
- 1991 : opening of the skirting of St-Chamond. Old A47 crossing St-Chamond is displaced in D288 (expressway).
- 1998 : at the time of the World cup of Football, the section St-Chamond St-Etienne passed to 2 X 3 ways but it bears the name of RN88 on this part.

- It continues then with the A72 after Saint-Etienne in direction of Clermont-Ferrand.
