French highway A406
Presentation
The Highway A406 is a bar of small ten kilometers which will make it possible to connect the RN79 (a section of the RCEA: Road Centers Atlantic Europe), and with a second degree a6 highway, with the highway A40 (Macon connection - Geneva via Borough-in-Bresse). It will leave the south of Mâcon and will join A40 on the level of Replonges in Ain. The layout has a strong constraint: the crossing of the Saone by a new work which must not have impact on the risings of the river whose choice of believed of reference would not be stopped yet: believed of historical period of return 100 years or believed of 1840. From the road point of view, A406 will facilitate the connection of the largely A40 (Swiss, Ain, the Jura, High Savoy) with the RCEA which is a little complex today because of the absence of complete exchangers between A6 and A40. There exist 3 possibilities to join the RCEA coming from A40:
- to leave in Replonges and to cross the St. Lawrence and Mâcon to take again in the south the RCEA,
- to leave in Mâcon centers on A40 and to cross Mâcon via the ex-RN6,
- to continue on A6 and to leave in Northern Mâcon. With toll, to make half-turn to take again A6 towards Lyon and to leave in Southern Mâcon. This last solution, a little " tordue" is to be privileged at the rush hours of circulation in the agglomeration mâconnaise.
