French highway A14

The highway A14 is a urban Autoroute with Péage 15,6 km length located in the west of the Île-de-France. Brought into service in 1996, it connects the district of businesses of Defense to Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) with Orgeval (Yvelines) where it joined the A13. Its exploitation is ensured by the Société of the highways Paris-Normandy (group Sanef).

This highway does not comprise any access between Nanterre and Orgeval. In particular, the exchanging projected at the western exit of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer which should have been in the forest of Saint-Germain was removed in 1990 on intervention of François Mitterrand at the request of the town councilors. Other exchangers were considered in the sector of Poissy and the loop of Montesson. However, the local government agencies are not unanimous on the interest of these accesses and none was really projected. The function of this highway is thus to double A13 between Paris and Orgeval for the users going beyond of Orgeval. The unballasting of the local roadway system, in particular of the main road 13 which irrigates the sector of Saint-Germain, is so limited.

Concerning the project of exchanger on the level of Montesson, the mayor of this common put like prerequisite the improvement of the local service road with a new roadway system to lighten the RD 121 and which there exists another exchanger on the level of German Saint. For the layout of the new roadway system of unballasting of the RD 121, it indicated as prerequisite in its electoral program of 2001 that this new way is compatible with an exchanger on A14. A project of new way of unballasting of the RD 121 will be the subject of a public dialog at the beginning of 2006 and is designed to be brought into service in 2012. It is thus a preparatory stage with the installation of an exchanger with A14 located just at the west of the turn pike of Montesson. Seven last September, a " Favorable opinion without réserves" is the conclusion of the investigating police chief in charge of the public survey on the departmental new Way (e.g. deviation of the rd 121) which was held in Sartrouville and Montesson.

For the exchanger with the height of Saint-Germain, it is in right track since work began on June 6th, 2007 so that a complete exchanger with bar of exchange is born at the end of 2008 in Chambourcy accompanied by a setting with 2 times 2 ways by D113 (Ex Nationale 13) and creation by roundabout in the crossroads between German Saint and Orgeval about 2009-2010.

It counts many works of art including two Viaduc S on the the Seine and a Tunnel of 2,8 km for the passage under the terrace of the Château of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer. Its cost of construction rose to 4,5 billion francs (690 million euros) of the fact precisely of the environmental constraints, in particular in the sector of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer, and the requirements of the residents which required the digging of a tunnel and the cover of several sections.

The Péage for the light vehicles is of 6,90 euros at the rush hours (6 with 10:00 and 16 with 20:00) and of 4,80 euros the remainder of the day. This amount is relatively high in comparison with the distance covered, but there exist formulas of Abonnement, and even the exemption from payment of the passage for the vehicles practitioner the Covoiturage (three people at least including the card holder) for an outward journey and return per business day.
