French federation of hiking
The French federation of the hiking (FFRandonnée) (in the past national committee of the paths of great excursion ) is a association gathering various clubs giving access to the hikers marked out paths.
The federation is created the August 22nd 1947 thanks to Jean Loiseau and joins together Touring Club of France, the Vosgean Club, the French Alpine Club and the Camp-site Club of France. Its goal is to organize and mark out paths through France.
It is first of all named National committee of the Paths of Great Excursion (CNSGR) and is recognized of public utility in 1971. In 1978, the committee passes to the statute of the current federation.
Beaconing
The missions of this federation are to maintain in state these routes and their beaconing like opening the new ones. The paths are located using marks of paintings. Two type of routes are created by the federation:
- ways of great excursions (GR.)
- ways of walks and excursions (PR)
These routes are described in topos-guides published by the FFRandonnée . They are laid out on trees, rocks and posts along the excursion. Their variation varies according to the meanders. The beaconing is entirely ensured by voluntary hikers members of association.
Some paths
The first marked out way is the GR. (great excursion) number three which skirts the the Loire. It is started in 1947 but under the name GR. 3 qu ' in 1983 will not be finalized.Among the famous GR. one can quote the GR20 which cross the Corsica of north to the south, and the GR5 which makes the turn of the Mont Blanc.
