French drain
A French drain is a pipe of drainage posed with the foot of the foundation S of a building to evacuate the surplus of water of the ground. It can be connected to the rain Système of the municipality, or to a basin of pumping. It is usually about perforated a plastic pipe, wrapped of a Géotextile retaining sand and the " parts; fines" grounds. It is covered with a layer of coarse gravel (approximately 30 centimetres), and incidentally covered with a second felt.
The problems of drainage are one of the most frequent latent defects at the time of the purchase of a building. If the drain is stopped or non-existent, the floor of Ciment of the basement remains often wet, and during the rainy periods, water can even if to infiltrate and cause damage. A strong moisture can support the degradation of cement of the flagstone, and supports the development of bacteria (sometimes called " champignons"). White gypseous crusts can appear, sign of a reduction in pH by a Phénomène of carbonation. It is besides what causes the corrosion of the bars of the reinforced concrete.
