Intervention
These projects relate to the urban development and the infrastructures, the environment, rural development, industry, the financial systems as well as education and health. The Agency proposes a range of financial instruments which goes from the subsidy to the guarantees and the acquisitions of a holding while passing by all the forms of helped loans and loans in condition of market. It is the operator pivot of the French device of government aid to the development and acts under the supervision of the Ministries for the economy, finances and industry, the Foreign affairs and overseas. The AFD intervenes in more than sixty countries of Africa, of the Pacifique, Asia, the the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and the the Mediterranean, like in the France of overseas.
The Agency registers its interventions within the framework of the objectives of the millenium for the development, with crossed objectives of economic growth, reduction of poverty and safeguarding of the environment. Sustainable development directs the strategy of the AFD. It develops financial and intellectual partnerships with other backers and contributes, in bond with its supervisions, with the development of the public policies and the French influence in the sphere of the development.
The AFD also intervenes in the emergent countries, on the sets of themes of the environmental protection and the control of energy (in particular in China, and as from 2007 in India, Mauritius, Pakistan, Egypt and with the Brésil).
The AFD is directed since 2001 by Jean-Michel Severino, whose the 3 years mandate was renewed in April 2007. Its economist chief is Pierre Jacquet.
