French concession of Shanghai
Chinese territory under French control of 1849 with 1946 in the town of Shanghai. (法租界 fǎzūjiè in Chinese)
The April 6th 1849, the French Consul to Shanghai, Charles de Montigny, obtains Daotai (chief of district, CAD ) Flax GUI a proclamation which fixes the site of the territory of residence of the French. The concession is located at the north of the Chinese city. It is limited, in the east by the Huang Pu, in north, by the British concession from which it is separated by a channel, Yangjingbang. Its dimensions (66 hectares) are definitely more modest than those of its English colleague (199 hectares).
A Franco-Chinese Accord puts an end to the French concession of Shanghai on March 1st 1946.
