French cements
French Ciments is a French industrial society specialized in the manufacture of Ciment S, subsidiary company with 80 % of Italcementi Group, 5th world Cement-manufacturer.
French cements is the international subsidiary company of Italcementi Group and gathers the whole of the world participations and holds important market shares in many countries on all the continents. The trades of the group concentrate on the valorization of the natural resources to transform them into products which meet the needs for the Building industry and Public works: cement, lime, and their derivatives, through its three branches of industry: cement, aggregates and concrete loan-with-the employment. Since 1998, the Italcementi group with French Cements in first line, continued its policy of external growth on markets at strong potential: with the Morocco, in Thailand and Bulgaria, India via a joint-venture and in Egypt, where the group took the control of the leader of the market Suez Cement in April 2005 and bought Asec Cement Company in August 2005. In 2007, French Ciments acquired of an production unit of cements of 2 million tons in China (Fuping cement), and taken the control of Hilal Cement to the Kuwait.
French cements is with dimensions at the Bourse de Paris with a market cap of 5,6 Mds of euros at the 12/31/2006.
History
- 1850: Emile DUPONT and Charles DEMARLE open with Boulogne-sur-Mer a small quick-setting cement factory said " cement romain". Five years later, the " Natural Portland cement of Boulogne-on-Mer" a first medal with the World Fair of Paris obtains.
- 1861: the company " Demarle and Cie" the course of the 10  crosses; 000 tons sold in the year.
- 1881: fusion with the Company of Portland cements Desvres, the company becomes a Public limit company and becomes French Ciments. The sales exceed 100 000 tons.
- 1913: After a regular growth over 20 years, the company has 5 factories: Boulogne, Desvres, Guerville, Souys and Couvrot; the sales exceed 400 000 tons.
- 1931: record of production before the crisis of the years 1930: 673 000 tons; this volume will be found only in 1947. Acquisition of two new factories: Beaucaire and Espiet.
- 1941: The factory of Boulogne is destroyed and the head office is transferred to Guerville.
- 1949: After the war, the company answers the effort of rebuilding. The 11 factories of Colombelles, Airvault, Cruas, Montebourg and Neux are used to the maximum and the production reaches the million tons.
- 1961: The production reaches the 2,5 million tons.
- 1971: Important year where the resumption of Poliet and Chausson which, after fusions of Loisne and Ciments of Rombas, gives to the company its current structure. The 23 factories of the group cover 35 % of the French market; the sales exceed 10 million tons.
- 1980: In 10 years, the potential of the existing factories is reinforced. The unit of Bussac in the Gironde is born. International expansion starts with Rumelange with the Luxembourg and Coplay with the USA.
- 1990-1991: International expansion accelerates in Belgium with the Belgian Cement resumption, in Greece and Turkey. The production reaches 20 million tons.
- 1992: Pariba S yields to Italcementi 39,8 % of the French Cement capital. A joint venture is created with Cyprus.
- 1998: New acquisitions are carried out in Bulgaria, Thailand and Kazakhstan. Italcementi goes up to 65 % of the capital.
- 2000-2001: Investment in a joint venture in India, and entered the capital of the Egyptian leader Suez Cement. The production of cement reaches 30 million tons.
- 2004-2005: Resumption of the Egyptian leader Suez Cement with 51 % and of Asec Company Cement, another Egyptian cement-manufacturer.
