The French State is the name adopted officially by the Régime of Vichy, which directed France of the July 10th 1940 to the August 25th 1944, and whose capital was Vichy, then in free Zone.

It is the fall of the III {{E}} République, by the demolished June 1940, which was a prelude to with the birth of the French State.

This mode was created by the constitutional law of the July 10th, 1940, voted by the National Assembly (fusion of the Housees of Commons and the Sénat), by 569 votes against 80 and 17 abstentions.

The voters granted the full powerss to the marshal Pétain, up to that point President of the Council, to promulgate a new Constitution. Prevailing itself of this law, Pétain issued “the French State” instead of the French Republic, and allotted the title of Head of the State.

It instituted an authoritative mode and engaged the collaboration with the Nazi Germany of Hitler.

This mode ended in fact at the time of the Libération of France in August 1944. The Général de Gaulle then refused to reach at the requests of those which pressed it “to restore the Republic”, meaning to them that it had never ceased existing because having always regarded “the French State” as illegitimate:

The Republic does not have I amais ceased being. Free France, fighting France, the French Committee of national release incorporated it in turn. Vichy was always and remains null and nonwhich occurred. Myself am the president of the government of the Republic. Why would I proclaim it?
