The French Petroleum Institute ( IFP )

is a scientific research center and of industrial development, formation and information in the fields of the hydrocarbons (Pétrole and Natural gas), their uses in particular by the vehicles and of new technologies of energy and the environment (production of fuels ex-biomass, biocarburants, hydrogen, captures and storage of Carbon dioxide, etc).

In an international energy context marked by major challenges - to deal with the inescapable Growth request for energy implying in particular to renew the Oil reserves, to reinforce mix energetics and to fight against the Climate change, the IFP innovates, develops and transfers technologies making it possible to produce, convert or use the energy to satisfy the increasing needs related to the and transport sectors Pétrochimie and this, in a durable way throughout XXIe century.

For the IFP, it rises from these challenges 5 priorities for the decades to come:

to renew and increase hydrocarbon world reserves,
to conceive processes of clean refining and petrochemistry and with high effectiveness,
to diversify the energy sources for the production of fuels and Hydrogen,
to reduce the consumption and the emissions of the vehicles,
to control the capture and the storage of the CO2.

Work of research and development of the IFP, organized according to these 5 strategic priorities, regularly gives rise to new technological solutions put at the service of the economic competitiveness of industries, thus generating growth and employment. A wallet now composed of more than 12.000 Brevet S testifies to the force to innovation to the IFP.

Exploiting synergies between research and formation, the IFP leads an important action of transfer of the knowledge with the École of oil and the engines. Opened to the graduates of the higher education of the whole world, the School offers a very broad range of formations to the trades of oil, gas and engines, prolonged, in the permanent training area, by ENSPM Formation Industry - IFP Training, subsidiary of the IFP.

Being based on an important information center and the whole of the knowledge developed with the IFP, the capitalization and the diffusion of the scientific knowledge, techniques and economic is an activity with whole share, led for the benefit of the institutional actors and industry.

Lastly, the IFP is at the origin of the creation of many companies whose activities cover the whole of the chain parapétrolière, of the council to the Ingénierie while passing by the supply of products, equipment and services. These companies form an international group today. They constitute an important relay for the industrialization of the technological innovations of the IFP.

The two principal establishments of the IFP are at Rueil-Malmaison and Solaize.
