French Legion of the combatants

The French legion of the combatants is the organization vychist war veterans, created on August 29th 1940 by Xavier Vallat and chaired by the marshal Pétain. The French State assigns to him like mission “of regenerating the Nation, by the virtue of the example of the sacrifice of 1914-1918”.

The chiefs are named and sharpened ( and elected either and voluntary , as in traditional associations war veterans).

The law of November 19th, 1941 transformed the initial legion into “French Legion of the combatants and the volunteers of the national Revolution”, in order to include there the partisans of the mode who had not fought.

From this legion two formations emerged successively:

  • the Service of order legionary (GROUND) attached to the Legion, but with a strong autonomy;
  • the French Militia, consisted Pétain, starting from the GROUND made autonomous, and whose, to the release, the members in escape in Germany were going to be enlisted by the Nazis in the Waffen S.
