French Highway A12

The French highway A12 (in the past highway of Brittany) is a Autoroute of release of Paris located in the Yvelines. It is detached from the Autoroute of Normandy by an exchanging named “Triangle of Rocquencourt” located in the commune of Bailly and joined RN 12 and RN 10 with Wood-in Arcy. Its overall length is of 8,5 km. Its access is free.

History

A12 is one of the very first French highways: it opened in 1950. It is also interesting to note that it was not prolonged since its construction, which makes of it the oldest French highway with being remained in the state on the plan of the layout.

Its history starts in 1934, with the publication of the Plan Prost, which envisaged in particular a network - already dense - highways in Paris region. A12 was then called “highway of Brittany” in reference to the RN 12 any close relation who prolongs it in this direction.

Its construction probably started in 1936, with the first deforestations on the side of the famous triangle of Rocquencourt. Work ceased however not very front 1939, only the carcass work heavy castings having been carried out (earthworks). Work took again post-war period and lasted until in 1950.

The highway did not know since step of large changes: cover of a section with Saint-Cyr-the School, widening of the roadway in 4+3 ways.

It is on this highway that at summer installed one of the first automatic radars in Yvelines.

Project of prolongation of a12 highway

A prolongation of Montigny-le-bretonneux to the Essarts-the-King, envisaged for the horizon 2020, was started again in 2004 by the Minister for transport Gilles de Robien.

On Tuesday, October 24, 2006, following the public debate having taken place from March 3rd to June 17th, 2006, he thus announced the choice of the prolongation by the median layout 2C', of a 15 km length, comprising five exchangers and several covered trenches. He starts in tunnel at the end of the current highway, to the crossing with the Trunk road 10, then skirts, partially covered, Montigny and the zone of activities of Trappes and crosses, to some extent in distinct glaze, the communes of the Canopy and the Mesnil-Saint-Denis, and finishes by circumventing the Essarts-the-King by the west to join N10 with the exchanger with D191.
