The French Documentation is a public administration French, cofondée by Jean-Louis Crémieux-Brilhac, charged with publishing general documentation on the main issues for the French administrations and the French population. It also acts like editor for the administrations in the broad sense: it publishes nearly 500 titles per annum. It is mainly known to publish reports and studies of the French government.

It manages also three Internet sites of which service-public.fr, which give access to thousands of administrative forms and many information on the public services, and life-publique.fr, the site of the E Citoyenneté (information on the institutions, evolution of the laws, access to the public reports/ratios, etc).

It is one of the directions of the services of the Prime Minister of France. It acts under the authority of the general secretary of government. It is governed by the decree of the February 6th 1976.

French Documentation is installed with Paris, Quai Voltaire and, since 1967, with Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis) in a building modernized in 1997.
