Freiberg is a city in Saxony, Germany, prefecture of the Arrondissement of Freiberg.

The city was founded in 1186, and was a center of mining industry in the ore mountains during centuries. A symbol of this history is the Université mines and of technology of Freiberg, founded in 1765 and the university of the mines and the oldest metallurgy in the world.
