Freephonie

The freephonie is the name given by the operator Free to his offer of telephony on IP. This one accessible to is very subscribed Free.

This service first of all rests on the free protocol SIP which makes it possible to telephone with its account Free since one has of a connection Internet and a customer SIP. Tariffing is then that offered by Free (with in particular the exemption from payment of the calls towards Europe, the US ones and Canada).

Connection Internet can be of any nature, for example:

  • ADSL of any supplier (Free or other)
  • network Wi-Fi public or deprived, protected or not
  • network GPRS/EDGE/UMTS
  • specialized line
  • etc…

The customer SIP can also be of any nature, for example:

  • a softphone for laptop or of office (X-Lite,…)
  • a mobile phone supporting the protocol SIP (Nokia E61,…)
  • a mobile phone on which a customer software SIP is installed (Fring,…)
  • a PDA on which a customer software SIP is installed (SJ Phone,…)
  • a telephone Wi-Fi SIP of house

Thus, to use the freephonie, it is necessary:

  • to create its account SIP in the interface of management Free
  • to acquire or install a customer SIP
  • to parameterize this customer SIP with his personal informations (account Free, proxy freephonie,…)
  • to find an access Internet
  • to telephone!

Note: it is possible to use its account SIP to call on its clean Freebox, which can be practical to call at is since the foreigner…

Moreover, the interface of management makes it possible to rather activate the reception of its personal calls on the account SIP than on the telephone connected to the Freebox. The fixed telephone becomes wandering then about it…

Freephonie Wi-Fi

In addition to the channel dedicated to connection Internet, the Freebox V5 have a whole a channel Wi-Fi named " freephonie" protected by the protocol WPA - EAP and that only the freephones are able to use. These telephones, exclusively sold by free, recover the certificate necessary to their authentification by a single initial connection on a port USB of the Freebox. They are then able to use the whole of the channels " freephonie" offered by all the Freebox V5 under operation. Owners of these telephones (and only them!) can then profit from the network thus made up to pass or receive their calls SIP.

Note:

  • the good performance of the principle is reinforced by the fact that the Freebox V5 are provided with the Wi-Fi MIMO whose emissions are stronger than the Wi-Fi " ordinaire"
  • it is possible to decontaminate the channel freephonie its Freebox V5 in the interface of management
  • when one has a mobile phone supporting protocol SIP, it is not possible to use this channel " freephonie" since it requires an authentification on the basis of certificate that only the freephones can present

If this network of Freebox V5 could be almost connected with a network GSM, it should all the same be noted that it is not possible to change terminal Wi-Fi during the same call; limiting of as much the capacity to move.
