Masonry at the time colonial

The history of Masonry corresponding today to the Uruguay starts at the end of the XVIII° century with the arrival of the first emigrants on the territory known under the name of Eastern Bande and its capital Montevideo.

The Big room of Uruguay

The Great East of Uruguay was founded on June 24th of the 1855 by the Great East of Brazil by granting a Patente to him. It became an autonomous maconnic power on July 17th of 1856. Subsequently it will be done called Big room of the Masonry of Uruguay as it nowadays is known.

The Plain Big room of England

The presence of English masonry in Uruguay goes back to 1807 with the English invasions.

It is in Montevideo that on February 11th, 1862 is founded the Cabin Acacia in Montevideo, by Causes Lumb initiated 7 years front in the English Cabin Excelsior .

Currently, the presence of English Masonry in Uruguyan territory always appears through the existence of a Cabin working in English and according to the rite used by GLUA. For reasons of proximity, this Cabin depends on the Southern Sector of the British Masonry which has its Provincial head office in the town of Buenos Aires, in Argentine.

The Great East of Uruguay

The Great East of Uruguay was founded on August 25th, 1990 by the association of brothers made up in cabins and triangles. Its seat is in Montevideo, and has the statutes approved by their Executive power on April 3rd, 1992, statutes which constituted the regulation for their operation like maconnic power. Then it obtained its final Patente the Great East of the Rio Grande of the South, on October 31st, 1992. A few days then, on November 4th, 1992, it received the recognition of the COMAB (Maçonnique Confederation of Brazil).

The Great East of Universal Mixed Freemasonry

The Great East of Universal Mixed Freemasonry (G.O.F.M.U.) is an independent maconnic Obedience gathering men and women who resembled itself there by initiation, by respecting the traditional practices accurately.

Its only currency is that forged by our Brothers of the century of the lights: freedom, equality, fraternity and that of the liberal masonry of time present: absolute freedom of conscience

Its creation goes back to December 1998.

The the Great Latin-American East

It is about a maconnic organization with character international which has its principal seat in Sweden. It is present in Uruguay since 1992.

The history of this mixed maconnic organization is closely related to the political process and social in Chile with the beginning of the year 70 pennies the dictatorship of Pinochet.

In Europe very quickly creates for itself the Big room of Chile in Exile on the basis of three Cabin (in Paris, in Stockholm and Copenhagen). In 1990, the delegates of the various cabins joined together as a large assembly decide to change the name by that of Grand the Latin-American East , without changing its institutional structure nor its organization.

The Female Big room of Uruguay

After several years of operation under the auspices of the Female Big room of Chile , on May 3rd, 2007, by establishing the third female cabin in Uruguay, is granted the Patente to the Female Big room of Uruguay like autonomous maconnic organization, in the presence of the delegations of Chile, of Argentina and Brazil.

It is currently made up by the Cabins: Faith , Hope and Charity .
