Free fields
the Free fields is large cultural equipment of the agglomeration of Rennes with Rennes whose architect is Christian de Portzamparc. The building opened with the public on Tuesday, March 28 2006. It is located in the surroundings of the station.
A pyramid of glass, planted broader upwards in a concrete block floating on the first floor from where escapes a large black bubble, covered with zinc scales, of 120 m out of 50: 24000 m of surface and 35 m in height, lodge a large library, a City of Sciences and the Musée of Brittany. The cost of construction exceeds the hundred million euros.
On the sixth floor of the library the collections of the writer Henri Pollès were gathered, whose parts of the house-museum were accurately reconstituted.
Since the last stage of the library, there is a broad sight on north of the city, partially masked by the tower of the Social security just opposite the Free fields.
History
The Free fields opened with the public on March 28th, 2006. The stage of the million visitors was crossed on January 17th, 2007, that is to say an multitude stronger than envisaged.

The building occupies a surface on the ground of 6000 Mr.
The library
The Free Library of the Fields is largest of Brittany. It is associated with Rennes Métropole and is not integrated into the network of the libraries of Rennes. Bilbliothèque is organized on five stages according to the topics:

Space life of the citizen
One also finds, separate library in the building of the Free fields, the Espace life of the citizen where a great number of newspapers of the French Presse and reviews are available, as well as various documents. It is also a place of consultation of Internet.

Coffee of the Free fields
It is a bar-restaurant depend on the cultural complex. It is held debates regularly there (coffee-philosophy, coffee-history, coffee-Internet, coffee-citizen…). Certain conferences are retransmises in the room of the coffee of the free fields .
