Free Culture
the free culture or more simply Free the is current of thought defending the free diffusion and the collective appropriation of works of the spirit in opposition to the limits by contract " imposées" by the copyright and the patents, it is resulting from the Free software.
Base of the Free movement
Being an alternative of method to the copyright for the production, diffusion, or the remuneration of works of the spirit, the Copyleft constitutes an approach which cohabits with the Copyright but of which the antagonism ended up crystallizing politically around bills. In fact, a purely contractual principle (the free license) born defending movement philosophically and a politically Free mode of diffusion.
Values and perceptions
-
division of the knowledge and equity of the chances,
- ecology and ethics of the numerical communication,
- dynamic participative citizens and in the economy of the knowledge,
- information and media in free access for all,
- economic models of the Coopétition (based on the collective intelligence)
Considering the Free one is a young movement, there are various perceptions. Two principal perceptions of the Free Culture are:
-
the perception which concentrates on the questions of production and diffusion of artistic creations. One speaks here about free with the artistic direction culture , of new stakes of the intellectual property, novel modes of creation.
- the perception which approaches the stakes of the company of the information and the economy of the knowledge in its environmental globality, social and economic , by also including the aspects of artistic creation. One speaks here about culture to the direction social behavior . The cultural behavior called “free” is based on the values and the models of management of Free, the such hierarchy of contribution (approach known as bazaar, which is opposed to the models known as cathedral), participative media (on platforms of the blogs type, wiki, Internet sites Community…), certification by the pars, permanent self-tuition by the day before…
These two perceptions (artistic/behavioral) of the Free Culture are complementary. Both are founded on the legal aspect of the right of use of information: the free licenses, which offer a serious alternative to the licenses owners.
According to the medium (economic, teaching, mediums of artistic creation), the public will include/understand rather Libre Culture under its angle art/artist, and rather under its angle with the direction art/manner.
Characteristics of the free movement
The free license has four fundamental characteristics inspired of GNU/GPL: Freedom to use a work, freedom to distribute it, study it, modify it and redistribute it. If freedom studied a work seems acquired in any event for a text, it is more subtle in the direction or the original author must also distribute his source of work. What implies for a musical work, for example, to distribute and music and its file of design. By analogy one can compare that with the creation of a Recette of kitchen, in accordance with an analogy frequently used by Richard Stallman:- according to the principle of the free one: you obtained this receipt by any means (re-examined, word of mount…) and nobody has anything to repeat for this and/or that… You have the right to redistribute this receipt as you hear it just like you can modify it as it you like…
- according to the principle of the nonfree software, it is a little more restrictive: it is necessary to discharge to you from a license of use of the valid receipt in only one kitchen and to make eat only with you. Any copy or modification of the receipt is prohibited. Moreover, you cannot reach the details of the receipt, which are hidden.
Mobilities
Exit of the free software, the mobility of free consists of associations and abstract groups (around Web sites in particular) making the promotion of the free software and/or the free art (free music, free image…).For an exhaustive list of the User group Linux (in English Linux Users Groups), to consult the list of the LUGs in France.
