Free Agent
A free agent , in the professional sports, is a player of team whose contract with its team expired, and the player can sign a contract with another team. The term is common in North America, where the phenomenon exists in all the four leagues major: NFL, LMB, LNH and NBA. The set of free isotache generally does not exist in European leagues sporting, although the practice of the free Transfert S is similar.
There are often two classes different from the free agents: restricted free agents, and those which are without restrictions. The restricted free agency means that player is free to request offers of other teams for new agreements. However, before one allows this player to sign with the new club, the current club has the right to match the limits of the new agreement in this case the player must remain with the original team.
A free agent without restriction can sign with any team, without any special restriction: its team does not on the occasion to match the offers of other teams. A player usually must play during a certain number of seasons before one allows him the free agency without restriction.
In the time of the free agency (which started in the Seventies), the wages for players of the four North-American sports went up clearly while the free agency often leads to the multiple teams competing with for the line with a sign a player. To make sure of the profitability of the teams, and to prevent the rich clubs from signing all the best players, all the leagues except the LMB adopted ceilings salarials.
