FreeBasic

FreeBasic is a compiler of language BASIC for the platforms DOS, Linux and Windows. It is placed under public License general GNU and makes it possible to create achievable 32 bits in graphic modes high-resolution based on an embedded chart library, very complete. Moreover, it is possible to call external libraries, such as Gtk, GSL, SDL, Allegro, Lua, OpenGL… Of new libraries are constantly added.

FreeBasic remains very largely compatible with QuickBASIC while bringing many extensions. Certain instructions and functions differ in particular cases from those from the other languages BASIC, but the problems are easy to mitigate.

Under Windows, FreeBasic has an excellent editor named FBIDE which makes it possible to emulate the IDE of QuickBASIC.

FreeBasic uses the programming tools GNU Binutils and can produce the achievable ones in line of order or graphic mode, as well as static or dynamic libraries.

Although still at the stage béta, FreeBasic can already produce true applications. The compiler, with more than 57000 lines of code, can be compiled itself.

A program Hello world in FreeBasic:

print " Hello, world"
sleep
