Born the April 9th 1958 with Paris, the Compositeur Frederick Rousseau belongs to the generation which saw being born the Electronic music and the explosion of the technological applications in the entertainment world. Its music research is worked out starting from its electronic instruments that it Marie with leisure between them or with ethnic musicians, traditional orchestras and voices of all colors and all horizons.
Biography
During its adolescence, after a traditional musical formation, it passes from the Piano to all the instruments of Pop music: low, battery, guitar, percussions, for finally returning to the keyboards.
After studies of electronics, it is engaged in 1978 by ECA with the National defense to work with the development of the head Neutronique, detonator of the French nuclear bomb. Of a whimsical and insubordinate temperament, it understands quickly that its place is not in this austere and rigid environment. In 1980, it meets Francis Mandin whose enthusiasm allures it and who involves it in the creation of Music Land, store of mythical music and laboratory of electronic instruments of the future.
In 1981, after having worked with the development of the 1e polyphonic Sequencer MDB, it meets Jean Michel Jarre in quète of a musician-programmer able to handle this instrument for its round in China. Gràce with this new technology, Frederick could reproduce on line all the sequences which had taken several months to be recorded, without having recourse to bandesplay-back. This unforgettable experiment marks a turning in its career. Of return in France, it continues the live adventure by taking part in the recording of the album “the Concerts in China”.
Later during this year of all the meetings, it crosses the way of Vangelis, of passage to Paris to record “The Friends off Mr. Cairo” with the Studio Davout. Not only it assists with the birth of the mythical duet Jon and Vangelis, but it binds friendship with another young musician of talent Jean-Philippe Rykiel. It is the beginning of a long musical complicity.
The following year, Frederick will leave to London where it will shoulder Vangelis for the original recording of the band of the film “Blade Runner” of Ridley Scott. It is there that a complementary relation in the work will be sealed which will last more than 20 years.
Of return to Paris, it is in 1984 that it will insufflate its energy and its creativity in the album Zoolook of Jean Michel Jarre and that it will strongly mark his print.
In 1987, it joins the sound engineer Thierry Rogen to create the last large studio of French recording: the Studio Méga. During 4 years, it will record the largest stars Frenchwomen of the moment: Mylène Farmer, Jean-Louis Murat, Louis Bertignac, Indo-China, Kassav…
In 1990, Jean Michel Jarre again calls upon Frederick to recompose all the intros musics in the Concert of Defense. The role of Frederick on scene is at the same time to synchronize the sequences and to reproduce on line the special effects suitable for the music of Jean Michel. This spectacle is registered with the Livre Guinness as absolute records of audience (2 500.000 people)
The following year, 1991, Vangelis settles with Paris and records in Méga the album “City” . This delicate production will last more than 6 months. Frederick accompanies it with the Netherlands for Eureka, the project of the European Community, launched by François Mitterrand on the topic of industry and transport. This imposing concert takes seat on the docks of the industrial port of Rotterdam and gathers 800.000 people.
The spectacle is retransmis by satellite in all European space. Following that, in 1992, Vangelis persuade Frederick to leave Méga to assemble the Studio Astron to Neuilly-sur-Seine and definitively to seal an artistic collaboration. They record the musics of consecutively there “the Plague” of Luis Puenzo, of “the Moons of gall” of Roman Polanski, then of “1492: Christophe Colomb” of Ridley Scott.
Vangelis having begun again its districts in Greece, Frederick multiplies its visits there to produce there the spectacles “Antigone” (1993), “the Night of the Poets” (1994) and “Tribute to El Greco” (1995).
In spite of a charged planning, Frederick Rousseau found always time to work with its own compositions and leaves in 1994 “Mo” , an outstanding album by its Asian originality and its sonorities. This music opens the way so that one will call the Ethno-lounge later.
Follow “Spirit in the Woods” , dedicated to the trees (1995), then “Abyss” (1996), an experiment carried out with doctors specialized in Musicothérapie applied to neurology, concept that Frederick will name “No-music” . In 1997, it leaves “Woods” , a electro-wooded interbreeding with the voices of the people of the forest and the tribal rates/rhythms.
It is still in 1997 that Frederick joined Vangelis with Athens for the opening ceremony of the championships of the world of athletics. The spectacle is presented in the ancient stage Panathanaikos and retransmis in Mondiovision (820 000.000 televiewers, 75.000 spectators). By its originality and its references to the ancient sport, the concert ignites the Greek public.
Meanwhile, Frederick carries out for its account the musics of 40 documentary ethno-animalists and leaves in 1999 the collection the 5 deliver-discs “Grounds Legends” .
Mythodéa , the project whose Vangelis had begun the bases in 1993, sees the day in 2001. Frederick coordinates the electro-orchestral spectacle sung by the divas Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battle and interpreted by the London Metropolitan Orchestra under the direction of Blake Neely. This music was chosen by NASA for the mission “2001, Mars Odyssey” .
Frederick Rousseau publishes in 2002 “Travels” , a notebook of voyages, then in 2003 “Recall” , an album made up exclusively for Nature and Discovered.
The year 2004 is marked by the film “Alexandre” of Oliver Stone, whose Vangelis signs the partition and by which Frederick adds a new cord to its arc: musical editor. The massive project lasts more than one year and represents for Frederick an exceptional experiment and a monumental work.
In 2005, Frederick Rousseau signs at Milan Universal and leaves very personal CD, “Tears” , which announces a new turning in its artistic career.
