Frederick Fleet

Frederick Fleet (October 15th 1887 - January 10th 1965) was one of the watchers of the crow's nest of the RMS Titanic , it was the first to see the Iceberg with which the Paquebot entered in Collision. On the Ship, it helped with the setting with the Eau boat n°6. After the disaster of the Titanic , he testified with close to the board of inquiry and revealed that there were no binoculars in the crow's nest. If there had been of it, it could have located the Iceberg at a distance from 3 to 4 km and the Collision could have been avoided. Fleet was useful then on the Olympic before leaving the White Star Line in August 1912. During 24 years and until in 1934, it sailed for other maritime companies in particular the Line Union-Castle. Then became newsvendor at the end of its life with Southampton. After the death of his wife end 1964, his/her brother, with whom the couple lived, drove out it. Discouraged, it was hung 2 weeks later. It was 77 years old.
