Frederic VIII (June 3rd 1843 with Copenhagen - May 14th 1912) with Hamburg was king of the Denmark of 1906 to its death.

Born in Copenhagen, Frederic is the oldest son of Christian IX and the Louise queen. He is the brother of the queen Alexandra, wife of the British king Edouard VII, and of Guillaume, become king de Grèce under the name of Georges Ier. He makes his studies with Oxford. In 1869, it marries Louise of Sweden (1851 - 1926), girl of Charles XV of Sweden, from which it has six children:

Biography

In 1863, the crown prince Frederic took part in the war against the Austria and the Prussia. At the end of the hostilities, it shared with his father the businesses of the Danish government.

The reign

Frederic went up on the throne to dead of his father, the January 29th 1906, under the name of Frederic VIII, but its reign was of short duration (six years).

With many regard, Frederic VIII of Denmark was a liberal sovereign, he was more favorable to parliamentary monarchy than his father. Because of its late accession to the throne of the Denmark, weakened by a bad health, it could testify to its capacities only a few years years.

Died and burial

After a voyage in France, Frederic VIII of Denmark made a short passage to Hamburg where it remained with the hotel Hamburger Hof. The May 14th 1912, the evening of its arrival, incognito, Frederic VIII of Denmark left for a walk. While walking on, it became pale and crumbled on a bench and died. He was discovered by a policeman, conduit at the Hafen hospital, Frederic VIII of Denmark was declared died, he was sixty eight years old. Its idendity being unknown, its body was deposited in a mortuary where its servants recognized it. The official cause of its death was an heart attack.

Frederic VIII of Denmark was buried in the cathedral of Roskilde close to Copenhagen.

His/her oldest son succeeds to him under the name of Christian X.

Genealogy

Frederic VIII of Denmark belongs to the fifth branch (line of Oldenbourg-Glücksbourg) resulting from the fourth branch (line of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Beck), itself resulting from the first branch of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg. All these branches result from the first branch of the Maison of Oldenbourg.
