Frederic Masson
Louis Claude Frederic Masson is a French historian born with Paris the March 8th 1847 and died in the same city the February 19th 1923.
Biography
Resulting from a family of high-ranking magistrates, Frederic Masson intends himself for the diplomacy and becomes librarian at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In 1874, it marries the grand-daughter of a Conseiller State First Empire, which enables him to enter in relation to the principal family members imperial, in particular the prince Jerome Napoleon, of which he becomes the secretary and the friend.Starting from 1894, Frederic Masson is devoted mainly to the Napoleonean studies of which it becomes, in its time, the uncontested specialist, reigning on an army of secretaries and documentalists in his vast apartment of the Rue Boétie in Paris.
Elected official with the French Academy the June 18th 1903, to replace Gaston Paris, and received the January 28th 1904 by Ferdinand Brunetière. He becomes the perpetual Secretary about it the May 20th 1919.
In the Gallic one of January 27th, 1915, this eminent specialist in the time of Napoleon 1st, explained in a forever famous article, which had wanted Austria by making the war. The Archiduc François-Ferdinand assassinated on June 28th, 1914 wanted to create a separate empire of Austria and including/understanding Hungary, Galicie, Ruthénie, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Poland, to make assemble his wife, the Comtesse Sophie Chotek, Duchesse of Hohenberg on the throne and to ensure the succession his/her children. For that the German emperor promised to help it by cutting down Russia and France his allied. Then with them two they divided the world. After the death of the archduke, Guillaume II would have made do all that he would have liked with the old emperor François Joseph and with its new heir Charles François Joseph.
To its death, it bequeaths to the Institut of France the whole of its books, documents, engravings, drawings, tables and objets d'art, from now on preserved at the Fondation Dosne-Thiers. This funds includes/understands an exceptional whole of handwritten documents concerning the First Empire, like 1.000 drawings, 30.000 prints and more than 2.000 objects and tables.
