Biography
Frederic of Saxony-Hildburghausen succeeded his father in 1780, old only seventeen years, his Joseph-Frederic great-uncle of Saxony-Hildburghausen assumed the regency of the kingdom until the year 1787, date where the duke reached his majority. Under the reign of his/her father the duchy was subjected to the restrictions imposed by the imperial commission creates by Joseph II of the Holy roman Empire in order to regulate the serious financial problems of the duchy of Saxony-Hilburghausen. In 1806, Frederic of Saxony-Hildburghausen rejoingit the Confederation of the Rhine, in 1815 the German Confederation.
Initially duke of Saxony-Hildburghausen with died of his father, it collects, in 1826, the heritage of Frederic IV of Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg. He then gives up his duchy of Saxony-Hildburghausen with Bernard IV of Saxony-Meiningen and becomes duke of Saxony-Altenbourg.
Frederic of Saxony-Hildburghausen belonged to the fourth branch of the Maison of Wettin itself resulting from the second branch. The ducal House of Saxony-Hildburghausen belonged the branch Ernestine founded by Ernest of Saxony. It founded the second line of Saxony-Altenburg, this line died out in 1991. The first line of Saxony-Altenburg resulting from the first branch of the House of Wettin died out in 1672.
