Frederic Ier de Mantoue
Frederic Ier Gonzague , in Italian Federico I Gonzaga , is a noble Italian born the June 25th 1441 with Mantoue and dead the July 14th 1484 with Mantoue. It was the third marquis de Mantoue (area of Lombardy in Italy).
Frederic, oldest son of Louis III of Mantoue and Barbara de Brandebourg is 38 years old when his/her father dies in 1478.
Septentrional Italy saw one period of calm since the Paix of Lodi of 1454 and the engagement of “non-aggression” for twenty-five years of the Italic Ligue to which Louis III adhered.
The Quattrocento “saw” its more beautiful years, namely the second part of the century, and Mantoue will compete in qulque kind with Florence as regards artistic patronage. Andrea Mantegna, the painter of the court of Louis III, is there since 1460 and will remain there until its death in 1506. Work of the basilica Sant' Andrea commnencés in 1472 continues under the direction of Luca Fancelli, raises and successor of Leon Battista Alberti died in 1472. But in fact especially the letters attract Frederic, taste which it preserves of the teaching which was lavished to him by Vittorino de Feltro.
Its government lasted only six years and it left the memory of an honest man, generous, at the same time amateur of books and objects old but also attached to the economic advancement of its city and sound marquisat.
