Frederic III of Saxony-Gotha-Atlenbourg , born the April 14th 1699 with Gotha, deceased the March 10th 1772 with Gotha.
Frederic III of Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg was duke of Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg with died of his father in 1732. He belonged to the second branch of the House of Wettin, he was also a prince of the branch Ernestine founded by Ernest of Saxony, this branch belonged to the first branch of the Maison of Wettin. The line of the Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg died out in 1825.

In 1734, Frederic III of Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg signed a commercial treaty with its neighbors prince de Waldeck and the king Frederic-Guillaume Ier of Prussia. Its subjects had to suffer from the creation of a tax in its duchy. The duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg also suffered from the Guerre Seven Year old. Frederic III of Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg was in conflict with his neighbor and cousin the duke Antoine Ulrich of Saxony-Meiningen.
