Frederic Devreese

Frederic Devreese is a Belgian Compositeur born in Holland in 1929.

It approached all the kinds: opera, ballet, orchestra, chamber music, chorus, piano. However, these are especially the film musics and its services as a leader which made known it of the public.

History

Formation

His/her father Godfried Devreese (1893-1972), itself type-setter and leader, gives him his first musical lessons. He then studies in Brussels the composition with Marcel Poot and the direction of orchestra with Rene Defossez and improves near Ildebrando Pizzetti (composition) and Fernando Previtalli (direction of orchestra) with the Académie Holy-Cecile of Rome like near Hans Swarowsky (composition) with the Académie of State of Vienna.

Career

It is only twenty years old when its Concerto N° 1 for piano and orchestra receives the Prix of the Town of Ostend. In 1983, its Concerto n° 4 for piano and orchestra will be imposed on the finale of the prestigious international musical Concours Queen-Elisabeth-of-Belgium. Lastly, it is in 1998 qu' Ostinati for alto saxophone, accordion and cords will be imposed finally to International Concours Adolphe Sax of Dining. Many national and international prices will be decreed to him among which the Prix Italia for its opera TV Willem van Saefthingen, the Georges Delerue Award as well as the Plateau Music Award for its film musics (and this twice).

Frederic Devreese directed the Philharmonic orchestra of the BRT as well as many orchestras throughout the world. Its recordings for the firm Naxos (Anthology off Flemish Music) were worth to him to be appointed Cultural Ambassadeur of Flanders in 1996-97.
