Frederic Christian II of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg , (in German Friedrich Christian II von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg), born the September 28th 1765 with Augustenborg, deceased the June 14th 1814 with Augustenborg.

He was duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg of 1794 with 1814.

Marriage and descent

The May 27th 1786, Frederic Christian II of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg married Louise Augusta of Denmark (1771 - 1843), (officially girl of Christian VII of Denmark), (semi-officially girl of Johann Frederic Struensee).

Three children were born from this union:

  • Frederic Emile Auguste de Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg (1800 - 1865), prince von Noer, in 1829, it married the countess Henriette Danneskjold-Samsøe (1806 - 1858). In 1864, it was titrated prince de Noer.

Biography

Frederic Christian II of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg, twenty years old, married a cousin moved away, fourteen years old, the princess Louise Augusta of Denmark. Louise Augusta of Denmark was born during the years when his/her mother was married with the insane king Christian VII of Denmark, but semi-officially, it is notorious that his/her natural father was Johann Frederic Strvensee, doctor of the Court and regent in the name of Christian VII of Denmark. In February 1779, the Minister for the Businesses foreign Peter Andreas Bernstorff imagined an astute plan concerning the Danish princess. Plan used whenever the royal children are suspected of not being the legitimate children of the king, but resulting from an adulterous relation of their mother. Being given that a boy or a girl could inherit one day, throne of the Denmark, it appeared judicious to the Foreign Minister as fast as possible to marry the princess Louise Augusta with prince d' Augustenbourg. This plan had rather positive effects, it made it possible to tie bonds with the two lines of the royal House of Denmark. The decision of the House of Oldenbourg and the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg prevented the bursting of the kingdom of Denmark.

The couple resided at the castle of Christianborg, this one was devastated by a fire in 1794.

With the son of the years, a conflict developed between Frederic Christian II of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg and Frederic VII of Denmark in connection with the two duchies (the Schleswig-Holstein) and its small prerogative around Sonderborg of which a part belonged to Frederic Christian II and the other part with Frederic VII of Denmark.

In 1810, his/her brother Charles Auguste de Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg was chosen by the Swedes as prince hérétier of the kingdom of Sweden in order to succeed Charles XIII of Sweden, but Charles Auguste died the May 28th 1810.

In agreement with the count Henri von Schimmelmann, Minister for Finance and Danish trade, Frederic Christian II of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg offered to Friedrich Schiller an annual rent of 1000 ecus.

Genealogy

Frederic Christian II of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg-Augustenbourg belongs to the first branch of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderbourg resulting from the first branch of the Maison of Oldenbourg. This line died out in 1931 with the death of Albert de Schleswig-Hostein.
