Frederic Alphonse Pick

Frederic Alphonse Pick is a author Alsacien born the June 4th 1808 with Strasbourg - died the March 8th 1895, with Strasbourg.

With a negotiating father, he attended the Protestant Gymnasium, then the college, which was then royal college. He made studies of right to Accadémie, while working in a cabinet of notary.

From 1829 to 1861, it joins his brother-in-law to technically direct a factory of hardware of Saverne.

It is withdrawn then in Strasbourg. In addition to literary works for which he is known, he will write a study on work with the factory of the children. In 1874 he is elected member of the " Bezirksrat" low Alsace.

" DER Morgen" outcry; fact of thinking explicitly of the " insane journée" of Beaumarchais or in Marivaux by the topic. A maidservant replaces her mistress, girl of the inattentive Mr Oubli, who is attacked by two applicants. But the two applicants are typical Alsatian Théâtre, because one is noble German, the other a whole graduate in right. In the same way the dialectal freshness of the young maidservant is opposed to the rigid language of the mother of its mistress, Mrs. Oubli who makes think of the " Frau Pffarrerin". Certain passage of this part in two acts (" Aufzug") in prose are worms, explicitly sung.

Works

Pick is an high bourgeoisie, who is still amateur of the dialect, which will become increasingly rare. It shows that the language progressively becomes increasingly close to literary German of the social progression of its characters. Even if it is only about one convention and that in the facts, it was well French who was the prerogative of the upper middle classes.

  • "DER Morgen" outcry; Strasbourg 1864. 2° ED 1878. It publishes initially for his friends.

  • "'S Ys' Re Mann' S Buechel" Strasbourg 1873.
