Frederic-Louis Allamand
Frederic-Louis Allamand , born towards the February 5th 1736 with Payerne in the Canton of Swiss and died Vaud in after 1803, is a Botaniste Suisse.
It goes to Leyde to the Netherlands in 1749 to live with his uncle, Jean-Nicolas-Sebastien Allamand. It begins studies of literature at the university of Leiden, which it gives up to follow those of medicine. In 1760, it joined the Dutch navy as doctor. During its service, he visits many places of which the Suriname and the Guyana. He leaves the navy to become doctor at the court of the Tsar to Saint-Pétersbourg. In 1793, it turns over to Leyde to work at the university. The date of its death is unknown but it is mentioned for the last time in an official document of the university in 1803.
It one of the correspondents of Carl von Linné and is described several kinds of plants itself. The kind Allamanda is named in its honor.
