Frederic-François Ier de Mecklembourg-Schwerin

Friedrich Franz I von Mecklenburg-Schwerin or Frederic-François Ier de Mecklembourg-Schwerin (December 10th 1756 - 1837) was Duc, of 1785 with 1815, then, after the Congrès of Vienna, Large-duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin of 1815 with 1837.

Filiation

It was born with Schwerin, wire of Ludwig von Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Charlotte Sophie of Saxony-Coburg-Saalfeld. Friedrich Franz succeeded her uncle Friedrich II as Duc of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1785.

June 1st 1775 Friedrich Franz married Luise Saxony-Gotha off. They had six children:

Historical role

In 1803, Frederic-François Ier de Mecklembourg-Schwerin took again Wismar, the island of Poel, Neukloster held by the Sweden since 1631. In October 1806, Napoleon triumph at the time of the battles of Iéna and Auerstaedt, the Prussia is impotent. The French occupy, inter alia, of most of Germany of the North, of which Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Friedrich Franz takes refuge under the protection of the Denmark to Altona. In July 1807 it is authorized by Napoleon to take again his throne after this last negotiated with Friedrich Ludwig von Mecklenburg-Schwerin the entry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in the Confederation of the Rhine.

After the Retirement of Russia, the March 14th 1813, Friedrich Franz as first German Prince of the Confederation of the Rhine, raises troops to fight France, but it must again briefly flee the French troops which besiege its residence. After the Napoleonean wars it was high under large-duke. Its grandson Paul-Frederic de Meckelbmourg-Schwerin succeeded to him in 1837.

Genealogy

Frederic-François Ier de Mecklembourg-Schwerin belonged to the line of Mecklembourg-Schwerin, this line belonging to the first branch of the Maison of Mecklembourg died out with Frederic-François V of Mecklembourg-Schwerin in 2001.

His/her daughter Louise Charlotte de Mecklembourg-Schwerin married Léopold Auguste of Saxony-Gotha-Altenbourg, by their Louise daughter of Saxony-Cobourg-Altenburg, Frederic-François Ier de Mecklembourg-Schwerin is one of the ancestors of the queen Elisabeth II of the United Kingdom.
