Freddy Maertens

Freddy Maertens is a runner cyclist Belgian, born the February 13rd 1952 in Lombardsijde.

Professional of 1972 with 1987, it gained 142 victories.

Very good sprinter, it had very many successes in the traditional ones: Paris-Turns in 1975, the Walloon Arrow in 1977 (it was displaced following a control positive anti-doping with the profit of Francesco Moser), the Amstel Gold Race in 1976, Ghent-Wevelgem in 1975 and 1976, the Grands Prix of Zurich and Frankfurt,… It was twice world champion on road in 1976 and 1981, champion of Belgium in 1976.

On the stage races, it gained Paris-Nice in 1977 and of many stages on the three large lathes.

In 1975, by gaining Paris-Brussels to 46,110 km/h he became holder of the yellow Ruban, trophy which he preserved until 1997.

He was several times implied in businesses of doping.
