Fred Vlès

Fred Vlès (1885 - July 2nd 1944, on the road towards Dachau) was a professor of Biological Physique of reputation at the Medical college of Strasbourg which found death in one of the last convoys for the Concentration camp of Dachau in 1944.

Second world war

He escapes the March 8th 1944 the raid from the Hotel God from Clermont-Ferrand orchestrated by the Gestapo following an attack the same day. But to avoid with others of the reprisals, it is voluntarily presented two days after to local Kommandantur. Imprisoned to 92e IH of Clermont-Ferrand for three months, it is sent thereafter to Compiegne where one of the last convoys for Dachau awaits it.

Fred Vlès dies of exhaustion the July 2nd 1944 in one of the coaches of the " convoy of the mort" (2521 individuals at the beginning of Compiegne, 984 died during the way towards the Germany and only 181 individuals returned from captivity).

One finds today a street of the name of " Pr. Fred Vlès" with Strasbourg, and one of the amphitheaters of the medical college of Strasbourg also bears its name.
